We Invite You to Join Us!

“Thanks for all the support and encouragement you provided us in our struggle with OPP. We conducted a whole-flock test a year after we completed our eradication program with 100% negative results. We’re so pleased — worth it despite the pain.”

The OPP CONCERNED SHEEP BREEDERS SOCIETY welcomes both purebred and commercial producers, as well as veterinarians, researchers, educators and all others who share our interest in ovine health issues.

We represent many different breeds and many different situations. Some of us have, despite repeated testing, never had an animal test positive for OPP; some of us started with stock from a clean flock; some of us are in the process of eradicating the disease from our flocks. In other words, membership in the Society is not intended to indicate freedom from OPP, but rather an active concern about the effects of this disease within our own flocks and within the North American sheep industry as a whole.

The OPP SOCIETY is a volunteer organization—operating on a shoestring budget—funded solely by members’ dues. If you’ve found this website helpful we hope that you’ll consider supporting our educational efforts. To join, please send our membership application along with your check in the amount of $15 US ($25/2 years, $50/5 years).

Blood Sampling Video

Recognizing that the cost of testing is one of many hurdles to overcome in a program to eliminate OPP, we’ve produced a 30-minute video demonstrating the collection of blood samples from sheep or goats. Used with veterinarian cooperation, the video can help producers lower the costs of blood sampling. The video can be viewed on YouTube by clicking here.
